So, we are attempting to start up a reading series for new writers here in the SF area. I've talked extensively with Jude and Alan at Borderlands Books on Valencia St in SF and they are excited and eager to begin. We've cleared a time on Fridays, once a month, after closing hours. All we have to do is start gathering readers.
Alan and Jude, being the busy folks that they are, would like this series to be self-running. I need your help to get it started. If you know of writers, published or soon to be published, that would appreciate this opportunity, then spread the word. Let's see what we can do.

Your on the list now Benjamin. Is there anywhere I can find your stuff?
I'm glad to hear enthusiasm and stuff.

Re: The Reading Series
Wed, April 13, 2005 - 1:26 PMYou can take a look at www.fictionpress.com/~benjaminseeberger. That's where most of my fiction is put.
I also maintain some other writings on cultured.fishspeaker.com. That's my personal web page, and when I'm in the mood, I do a lot of writing there, although it's not usually fictional. -

Tue, April 12, 2005 - 8:18 AMIf there's anything gothic.net can do to help, tell me. I am currently reading for the webzine right now so if I notice any new local authors I'll tell you. -

Re: The Reading Series
Tue, April 12, 2005 - 10:55 AMWe could always use the help. New(ish) writers are critical so I would indeed appreciate any you could sway (push forcefully) towards us.
Oh, and Darren, you would certainly be more than welcome to read as well. City of Apocrypha is near legendary in some circles and I for one would love to hear more.
Cool. -

Re: The Reading Series
Tue, April 12, 2005 - 7:03 PMI'm certainly not a new writer, but I am interested in helping out/supporting, etc. I have been trying to for some time to pursue getting the San Francisco writer community (particularly those who write in horror, science fiction and fantasy) together more often.
Let me know, as well, what I can do. And keep me informed of your developements and times.
Thanks, -

Re: The Reading Series
Tue, April 12, 2005 - 7:19 PMI think we can be fairly liberal with our definition of a new writer. As far as I am concerned, if you are not Peter Straub (or China Mieville) you qualify. One the other hand, if you have begun to send your stuff out to publishers, then you also qualify.
At least I had thought of it as faily liberal. We'd love you to read, Chris. I guess that is the bottom line. And if you know of anyone else....

Re: The Reading Series
Mon, May 2, 2005 - 10:53 AMYou've got to be kidding me -- I am not aware that many people other than folks who went to SF Goth's site and gothic.net have read any of it.
If you want to read the whole thing, I can send you a PDF of it. Email me at weasel@gothic.net

Re: The Reading Series
Sat, April 23, 2005 - 7:37 AMWhy don't we set up a time to do this? I don't know how many'll show, but we can at least start getting into the Friday habit, maybe put up a poster at Borderlands, and see if more people start showing up. -

Re: The Reading Series
Sat, May 7, 2005 - 4:17 PMHey folks. Sorry for the extended absence. Some work, some out of town time, etc, but also stuff going on behind the scenes.
We're having some bit of trouble finding readers. Oddly, we have had more than a few offers of assistance, but very few people have actually volunteered to read.
I would like to start with at lease three or four events pre-planned. I don't want to start with a big night than have it peter out. We need to make sure we make this a regular thing and I think the best way to do that is to begin with a series of Friday nights planned, with readers and volunteers lined up.
So, I have talked to Jude and Alan and she will spread the word more around the shop. Baine, hello Baine... make those flyers. Make two sets: one for readers and then one to publicise events. I want to hand out the flyers for readers first, then start to publicize once we have the events ready to go.
Thanks everyone, esp Ben, for the enthusiasm. We hope we don't disappoint. We just want to make sure that once we get going, we have the momentum to keep it going for many years to come.
Thanks again. -

Re: The Reading Series
Tue, August 9, 2005 - 11:08 PMHi, I am kelley. I have been colaborating with eric on this project.
There are still plans, however, eric has been recovering from an injury, and hasn't been able to deicate time to the project. I tallked to him recently, and we are still looking to get it going, but it will be a little while before we can get it moving again. Eric and i would both love to see this happen, so we will undoubtably resume progress when things have gotten a little less hectic.
